Responsible for Intuit’s overall IT infrastructure with respect to both operations and engineering. The successful candidate has extensive experience in leading a large scale IT infrastructure organization through significant change and very experienced in building and operating large scale, customer facing, internet hosted applications and services on a global scale.
This Company will be increasing and scaling up the hosting of its product and service offerings and the VP of IT Infrastructure is responsible for developing and implementing our data center and infrastructure strategy that will drive a scalable, cost effective, flexible, infrastructure that will enable the company’s business growth plans. Peak concurrent customer volumes will be in the order of 400,000 plus.
This role reports directly to the CIO and will be, in addition to customer facing hosted applications and data centers that deliver the offerings for our multi-million customer base, responsible for distributed system management, data and telecommunications networks, desktop systems and the applications services and infrastructure that support all of Intuits employees. This includes the operational functions, design and engineering, capacity planning, service provisioning, and vendor management. This will be about a 300+ person organization.
This leadership position is responsible for ensuring a world class operationally excellent IT operation. Likewise, (s)he must build a high performing organization and technology infrastructure that can support high availability of Intuit’s growing portfolio of desktop and web products and services. In addition to developing technical and leadership skills within the team, the person will be a key contributor to the overall effectiveness of both the CIO and CTO organization.
Key responsibilities and challenges for this executive include:
• Responsible for all global infrastructure including: data centers, telephony, disaster recovery, preventive maintenance, local and wide area networks, servers and hardware, Web Operations, IT security, storage, dial up and Internet access.
• Lead the operational, maintenance and administrative staffs in meeting annual and quarterly goals. Establish key SLAs to measure and improve service performance metrics.
• Evaluate and recommend infrastructure solutions to best meet the business needs of the company.
• Lead/drive a balanced scaling effort which includes off-shoring, outsourcing and other methods to provide high quality, cost efficient services to the business.
• Develop processes that are innovative without being stifling and restrictive.
• Assure that the most appropriate IT s ecurity measures are in place.
• Develop and maintain relationships with client organizations to ensure their infrastructure expectations are being met and priorities are set at the appropriate levels.
• Multi-million budget responsibility
• Collaborate with Applications teams and Business Unit Product Development teams to provide high availability, scalable business solutions. Deliver technical direction and solutions consistent with the overall IT strategy and direction.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a broad technical background but, more importantly, will be a strong operational executive as well as a strong leader and builder of high-performing teams. Ideally, the individual will have begun his/her career in a large sophisticated organization, having gained expertise employing best in class methodologies. The VP will have grown through successively larger assignments in building and managing global IT infrastructure for a fast growing, multi national corporation. As a result of this activity, the ideal candidate will have learned through experience the complexities involved in rapidly changing processes and implementing new technologies, and the resulting impact on people, the processes, and the organization.
He/she will have over 15 years experience in information technology. This will include at least 7 years of matrix management experience leading an infrastructure group greater than 300 FTEs, preferably in a large and rapidly scaling company with a
significant web and global infrastructure environment.
• Strong leadership and change management skills – experienced in managing large groups. Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate across organizations to optimize outcomes.
• 10+ years negotiating and developing partnerships with, and external vendor/ supplier. Expertise managing outsourcing service agreement including design and tracking of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Experience developing and tracking IT metrics.
• 10+ years of overall project management experience to include five years of experience as a project executive, leading very large mission critical projects that involve significant business and technology change
• Shown successful career progression in complex organizations (multiple data centers, networks, applications), and multiple engineering groups.
• Strong knowledge of business case development including cost/benefit analysis, NPV, current and future state assessment.
• Led an international IT organization to successfully deliver “mission critical” IT projects on a worldwide basis.
• Experience in building and moving global data centers.
• Experience working with business leaders and product development leaders and will have a strong understanding of their infrastructure needs and how they operate.
• A background that includes complex contract negotiations, vendor management, and capacity planning in a fast growth environment.
• Broad current knowledge of business technology applications, current trends in IT, and experience evaluating/implementing outsourced solutions and service providers.
• Experience in both infrastructure operations and infrastructure delivery is highly desired
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or related field. Advanced degree, especially MBA, highly preferred.
